SCoR publishes this guidance and advice document to provide additional information to support the development of consultant radiographer posts in both diagnostic and therapeutic radiography. There are real opportunities for services and service managers to use the advent of consultant posts to develop and deliver high quality, flexible, patient-oriented, and cost effective services. There is also scope for those within the profession who want to reach the top of clinical practice in both diagnostic and therapeutic radiography just as others aspire to the top in management, education and research roles within the profession.
These standards have been produced by the Association of Paediatric Radiographers (APR) in conjunction with the Society and College of Radiographers (SCoR) following research undertaken to establish the provision of imaging services for children in adult and children's hospitals SCoR provides this guidance for the improvement of imaging services for children and young people to ensure staff are adequately trained and policies are in place to ensure effective practice.
The Society and College of Radiographers (SCoR), with the aid of representatives from the profession, produced this guidance booklet pertaining to the Ionising Radiations Regulations 1999 (IRR'99).
Radiation protection principles and UK legislation is the responsibility of all professionals working with radiation and this booklet provides information and policy guidance from SCoR which should be of use to all radiographers, radiography students and radiography assistant practitioners (APs).
The Society and College of Radiographers (SCoR) is pleased to present this document, which makes explicit its role in the development of ultrasound practice and the support of ultrasound practitioners. For the purpose of this document, ultrasound practitioners are referred to as 'sonographers'. This title includes radiographers as well as those from other professional backgrounds. This document also identifies how the various policies of the SCoR apply in the context of ultrasound practice. It endorses the continuing professional development and education of sonographers and their role in the provision of an ultrasound service which meets the changing needs of patients and harnesses new technological developments.
This important advice and guidance document will be published as an on-line document to read in the Autumn but meanwhile the advice is posted as a pdf document. The Society and College of Radiographers (SCoR), with the aid of representatives from the profession, produced this guidance booklet pertaining to the Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposure) Regulations 2000 (IR(ME)R 2000) and the Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposure) (Amendment) Regulations 2006. Radiation protection principles and UK legislation is the responsibility of all professionals working with radiation and this booklet provides information and policy guidance from SCoR which should be of use to all radiographers, radiography students and radiography assistant practitioners (APs). Radiographers with the additional responsibility of Radiation Protection Supervisors (RPS) should, as good practice, be involved in IR(ME)R matters within their local department even though it is not their statutory responsibility.
A Guide to Tackling the Issues in the Workplace
A recently written report by Ann Keen, Parliamentary Under-Secretary for health (NHS BSP Annual Review 2007) claims that all of the promises made in the National Health Service Cancer Plan (DH 2000) to improve breast cancer detection through the NHS Breast Screening Programme have been delivered. Ann acknowledged "that whilst this is clearly a testament to all the hard work of those delivering such a valuable service we must remain committed to ensuring continued improvements to breast screening services and underlining our reputation as a world leader". But what has this continued success already cost the members of the Society of Radiographers in terms of their health, safety and welfare whilst they continue to work under pressure to achieve these targets? This publication has been designed to raise awareness of issues that may contribute to work-related MSDs in mammographers, and offers advice to minimise the potential risks affecting SoR members.
The Society of Radiographers publishes this guidance regarding the provision of protected study time. Protected study time is defined as 'A contractually agreed allocation of hours or days per annum, to be taken by the employee for the purposes of self-directed study and other CPD activities'. This document gives guidance and provides radiographers, managers and union representatives with a clear understanding of the current policies of the Society of Radiographers in this regard.
This statement explains the advice given by The College of Radiographers that student radiographers and trainee assistant practitioners should not be entitled as “Operators” under under the Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposure) Regulations 2000 as amended in 2006

Guidance for Radiotherapy and Imaging Service Managers and Commissioners
SCoR publishes this guidance document which has been developed to support the implementation of a new role of Community Liaison Expert Radiographer Practitioner. This role was first described in 2006 by SCoR as one of the three expert roles to enhance patient care across cancer pathways. Whilst the focus of this work has been the development of therapeutic radiographers, it is acknowledged that the role could be equally applicable to expert diagnostic practitioners working within cancer pathways. This guidance supports recommendations made within the Cancer Reform Strategy and supports the need for enhancement of care strategies for the patient across multiple interfaces along their cancer pathway. The guidance describes how the role of radiographers can be developed to enhance care for patients with cancer and outlines the role of the community liaison expert radiographer practitioner. The role builds on the core skills of the radiographer trained in cancer care from pre-registration. It is very much envisaged that this role will be at consultant practitioner.
